If it's DC, which it looks like to me, the electronics is a DC speed controller so you can run it off single phase. Is the transformer for the light?
If you had to play around, it might well be easier for you to fit an ac motor and use a vfd.

I think you are correct graffian, i had a long look at it today and the pots at the top of the pcb on the right are marked for rev's max , revs min etc , the main motor is simple on/off with no speed control so any electronics there are for the table motor. There is a lot of wiring for safety interlock switches that are all over the machine, including a massive foot operated emergency stop switch on the base.
There is a transformer for the light but thats up on the top of the machine.
I connected the vfd i use for the lathe to the main motor of the mill just to see the machine running and working , there is a horrible knocking like a dicky big-end in an engine coming from something in the top spindle, it appears to be the pulley that is disconnectable if the back gear is used. I'll investigate tomorrow, the noise disappears if oil is sprayed on the pulley where it meets the spindle.
your table drive motor is a std 180v dc drive motor, you will needto check and seeif the drive board is a three phase suplied transformer. or single phase, how many wires in your maim supply cable, 4 or 5, 4 =3 phase +earth, 5 3 phase,+ earth, and a neutral if your not 100% certain, get a sparkie, cos dc drive cards are expensive if you blow it!

Thanks agrimog , any idea what wattage the motor is ? It is small physically.
