Tool Boxes

I had that exact same kids tool set! I still have the saw somewhere in the garage, My grandad on my mums side had a wonderful garden shed with his tools perfectly organised in custom boxes. I inherited some of his original Black and decker stuff as I'm the only one that's taken to tools. Some of it was sadly stolen from me a few years ago. Still got his original Black and Decker workmate. It was a lifetime old when I got it but looked like new its a state now as I use it as an every day tool which somehow I think he would be happy about.

Back on topic I think there is a modern take on that tool box with the Systainer systems and similar as they clip into the other "system" components lots of different custom inserts can be had.

My father had a tool box similar idea, different design, mainly joinery, more the size of a mid sized suitcase. My brother now has it!

My Dad and I built one (well, I helped, sort of) when I was young. He was a carpenter & contractor and I eventually followed in the trade. He did finish work when he wasn't pushing a pencil, and also made a lot of our furniture when I was growing up. The tool box was similar in size and shape to the one in your photo, except it had a shallow compartment under the top and six drawers below; three on each side. Sadly it didn't survive storage in the years since my Dad passed away. The Tool box was built to replace his old one which I still have, and now houses most of his better wood working tools. The box resides near my desk and still bears some of the shrink wrap along the bottom from shipping here from over seas to minimise possible damp from this old house we're in.

Here are some photos of my Dads old carpenters tool box. There are two small drawers, two long trays, and a main compartment for the larger items.

I have a friend overseas who has a couple of Gerstner machinist chests. very nice workmanship indeed, but not worth the prices asked in my opinion.

I had the same, still have it sort of, I gave it to my lad ,

its on the wall in the garage just gone out and taken this photo.
My Grandad was a bricky all his life and my Dad still has his tool box which he used to have on the back of his bike , I have acquired Grandads levels, pins , corner blocks and pointing tool and still use them now whenever doing any brickwork .

I have one i was given as a kid, It belonged to a nice old guy that had been left it by his dad and on the front i think it is dated 1897, It is nothing special but he made it from a packing case and kept his tools in it, I kept it as a piece of furniture now.

I had the woodworking kit as a kid so maybe if you had got one as well you would also be doing bad welding like me
