Tree of Life

Tree of Life made for a recent customer, a celebration of his sister's life.
He asked for a silhouette image of his sister and her husband stood by the tree with their Labradoodles, And their three children climbing in the tree alongside 6o leaves symbolising his sister's age. I suggested three swallows showing the children leaving the nest and returning.
It is plasma cut freehand out of steel sheet.
I had the swallows zinc plated to highlight them.
He is a top chap, just after taking his deposit wifey walked out on me so I asked for an extension.
he was fine about that , then I broke my back, he was fine about that.
And was even worried about me, he even phoned me a couple of times to check that I was ok.

I used an OHP to scale up a photograph of them on a favourite holiday.

Overall very pleased with and it was really good for me working with this gentleman.

The whole item is fantastic but the concept and visual of the 3 swallows is simply something else, if I only made one arty thing and that was it I would be a happy man.

Cheers all, I was pleased with it in the end.
The silver birds? I dont know where they came from. it was after welding them on I realised they can have a significance.
I think I am lucky to consistently end up working with really nice people.

What a nice way to remember your sister and family, the tree of life or is it the key to life? Look at the object to the bottom right, it's a large key is it not? Very nice work.

There were two plant pots as well.
art of a collectin for Butterfly world, the giant had dropped the content of his pockets I made the key, a few coins and a key ring.
I made a spare key as I liked the original. I am amazed it has not sold over the years.

Nice work. Like the way you've used the outline of the canopy to tie together all the ends of the branches. Do you mind me asking what gauge sheet you used and if there is any reenforcement behind the trunk/major limbs?

I used 1.6mm mild steel sheet and 20x3mm strip with it's thin edge on the backs of the boughs to stop it flopping about too much. It fell over yesterday with no damage so I must have got the stiffening about right.
There are six short legs that will bolt to the wall allowing to stand about 120mm proud of the wall. And the dogs have independent mounts so they can go wherever wanted.

Ah right. Thinner than I imagined but I didn't realise it was going to be against a wall - was imagining it freestanding, being battered by the wind we're having now!
