He probably feels as if the whole world is against him and with xmas approaching its hard , all the advertising etc shows happy family units and as we know thats not always the case.

Not strange, you tend to hang on to the memory of the rough patches because you dealt with em and moved on-the happy times are easy-and more easily forgotten-you often have to dig a bit deeper into the memory bank to recall good days-the crap days/times are often ever present-like bills/fees/parking/speeding tickets.
Its life, do any amount of good stuff and you may not remember it, but make a cock up and it takes a long time to forget it.

Quote from my biker club culture-"When we do right no one remembers when we do wrong, no one forgets" sort of similar on a personal basis.
Regrets are easier to hang on to as you get older and funerals take the place of weddngs and christenings.

Well said those men. I used to be constantly worrying "What if?" Now I just think "******** to it" and get stuck in. You only have one run at this so you may as well get as much fun and joy from it as you can.
