Hi

Is any one in to trial bikes?. I am looking/ wanting to get into the sport. Does anyone have any pointers involving bikes etc?

Posted this pic earlier. My second Monty and my third trials bike.
Unless your 20 stone consider a 125 as a beginner. Regret selling mine and upgrading to a 250.
Make sure its current enough for spares to be available.

Sold the above just over a year ago to fund a new van. Getting antsy now and will be looking for another 125.
Less power means your not over biked and I could do more on the 125 thanks to the confidence it instilled.

Trials Central is a very good forum for advice.
Find a good practice area (legal please) and find a group to ride with. Fasted way to progress is riding with others who can push you and spot for you when attempting big logs and rocks etc.

My old practice ground.

Started riding with mates shortly after and improved rapidly due to the banter and insurance offered when someone's standing on top of a big ledge.

I was looking at some electric ones earlier in the year. Italian I think. Might be future proof.

Electric motion. Great bikes.mid have one but very expensive in comparison to ice. Second hand market for them is non existent.
Other option is Oset. They do a 20inch but isn't really a proper trials bike. Somewhere inbetween the youth range and a proper trials.

I did have a look at that forum. It seems pretty good. I am in central Scotland so I am looking to have a few goes, lesson's to see if it's really for me. Before I think about buying any gear

Long term might save you money.
Not only do you get a good taster day and training to see if the sports for you but you get to test out every bike on the market and see which works best for you.

There all equal really but each bike has differing geometry and finding the bike that suits your style is key.

Gas gas are very back end orientated.
Beta very stable and forgiving with excellent geometry for tight slow speed turns
Sherco sit somewhere in the middle.
The montessa is heavy and 4t a lot of 2t riders struggle to switch but as a newcomer it might suit well.

Uk designed. Built in China these days.
Very good for kids.
Have a 12.5" for my 4yo and a 14" beta mini trial electric.
Doubt il ever buy them a petrol bike.
I'd have an em5.7 if I could find one for sensible money.

Fly by wire throttle on off road or adventure bikes take some getting use too...my Triumph explorer has it and i hate it. It may be less twitchy on E bikes though..

Yup
Montessa 4rt is efi. Think beta and scorpa also have 4t with efi.
Vertigo and trs are also eft.
Everything else will be a delorto or kehin carb with a cable.

Personally I'd stay away from 4t and efi.

Decent e bikes have a lot of power curve options to setup power roll on/off etc to suit your styles within the controller.

There is a motor/controller unit you can shove into a gas gas frame which also has a gearbox and clutch. This one appeals to me a lot as a clutch sees a lot of use to roll power on. Pop find traction etc.

Ive ridden various bikes all my adult life, trials bikes and crossers when young, tried a montessa 4rt recently, borrowed from a friend, nice bike, but have to agree a 2 stroke if your learning. Though I do have a hankering to buy a twin shock.

I'm torn between a 2015 bike or an old TY as a project. Twin rather than mono.

With the wee bit of research I have done. I think two stroke would be the machine. It would be an older machine I would be after purely cost tbh

I am along way away from worrying about bikes . I did have a cr125 for a period of time. That is the only bike I have had.

my last trials bike was a 250 Suzuki power'd Beamish with air suspension.......
to old and stiff to start again......but ya never know........?????????
