Tripping compressor

Hi I ve got sip airmate comressor and was doing some soda blasting when it stopped working. I thought i must have switched it off by an accident but after further "investigation" i found fuse tripped. I tried to reset it but each time i switch on my compressor it trippes fuse at home as if there was an internal short in the compressor. Any help is welcome.

Is this direct drive or belt drive?
If direct can you remove the plastic cover and see if anything looks to of got hot.
Is the unit tripping a MCB just the one circuit or a RCD normally trips the whole board.
Do you have a multimeter?

It is a belt driven compressor. It is tripping only the fuse for outdoor electricity that powers my garage. I do have multimeter i just cant power the machine.

Does the motor hum or make any attempt to start or does it trip instantly as it is turned on.

Instantly the second i switch it on.

Im at work today so i dont know how much im going to do but tgere is a little black box on top of the electric motor when i open it it contains what looks like two ignition coils but i presume they are capacitors and maybe thats the good point to start looking for the short. I found a good article how to check capacitors on Wiki/Troubleshhoting_logic_board_components
I also open the switch and nothing seems to be loose or burn there.

Ok another thing is remove the belt and ensure the motor is free to turn by hand.

I did remove the belt cover and spin the motor by hand i havent removed the belt though.

If it turns ok with the belt on then you can rule out a bearing failure for now.

what ratting is the fuse what size is the compressor

The fuse is 13amps tgats the fuse in the plug the one that is tripping is the circuit breaker that i call fuse as well. It is 200l comressor if i remember correctly 2hp but i will have to check it for sure ive got it for about 4years and its been working all right so far.

It says ncb on it.

It is the same as your mcb. It says b16 on it so i think its 16amps

I see what you are aiming at. The compressor may be drowing too much amps and trip my breaker but how come it was all right for the last couple of years about 4.

It is mild 16-18c but its damp. As i said before it happened when i was using it. It tripped the breaker and it could not restarted it without tripping the breaker.

Thats was the dirst thing i was looking for a damaged cable but everything seems to be in order and there is no moisture in the switch. I checked and everything seems to look ok. I drain my tank once i stop using my compressor and before i start it.
