can you link me to a positioner that a tube can go trough. f so ill so the idiot down as he says there isnt one suitable.

You need a through bore Positioner, commonly used for orbital welding. Westermans will have something. You won't buy one new, except from AMI, Oerlikon etc. maybe proarc

Alternative names for the same thing seem to be 'hollow bore positioner' and 'headstock positioner' (tailstock available as an extra).

W.olly is looking for ideas. He put forward the idea of a standard lathe, which has considerable challenges attached to it. Whatever we call it, the yellow thing sold by TecArc might give him some useful further areas for study.

Lathe is a massively ridgid cutting machine desgned for high cutting forces.
Positioner is a slow feeble spinny thing. The forces are very low, consistent and slow rotation speed is key. Often use cheap univeral motors and sold for massive profits, its a niche market...

Lathe can make a positioner. Will you be using the lathe as an actual lathe?

My lathe is a little on the small side for it but I can make you a decent positoner if you want.

This positioner could spin 500kg at a fair rate of knots if you turned the wick up

Get in touch with westermans mine has a 22mm through hole but they do other sizes, why does it have to go through surely it can be set up so it doesn't have too, you end up costing yourself more in time lost faffing around
