Turbo question??

Just have to ask as i always doubt myself for some reason, but hey i am not always right.

I sent my van in withe new Turbo to be fitted and needed to old one as an exchange unit.

This turbo was taken off from my van, so the garage says, which i dont think kit as been. This is due to the rust on the gasket surfaces and condition of the turbine.

I dont like being lied to but also wonder why they are addament it is off the van.

So would folk say it was taken off a running van 2 days previous ?

I wonder if its ok to send back as an exchange unit unless the flange surface get a grinding also ?

Besides that they didnt fit the oil rerun pipe properly and its leaking so its gone back to be done again. Oh and connect the front indicators up as they didnt do that either when fitting the turbo.

This turbo was removed about 8 or 9 months ago for example and it's not as rusty as yours

I dont trust them so much i am going to buy an endoscope to see if its the new one fitted. hope to see the stamp aswell.

Just collect the motor and say your taking it else where as you don’t trust them

If they are a decent garage they will say feel free to take the motor to an independent workshop

If they kick up you have your answer

good idea, although i wont be, sods law this is the first time i have ever put a car to anybody else to fix as always done my own. just got bad trigger finder in five fingers. no pain no gain lol

What bit is missing? Both inlet and exhaust side of the turbo is there.

?? What do you need an endoscope for?? Just look and see if it's a clean new looking turbo fitted, will be visible from above or underneath. As for the rust there's many factors, how old was the turbo you asked to be changed, how many miles had it done, had it been removed before for other jobs and put back with rust on, had the gasket failed long ago.
Lot of armchair mechanics diagnosing faults without seeing the vehicle or knowing it's history.

i want to see what i cant see from above or below, turbo is at the back of the engine for a strat below the maifold, endoscope will help me see the stamp on it to see if it matchs the paper work i have for the new one i bought.
as for rust, yes on an old turbo it would be rusty so i expect thta on the excnage unit ( old on eoff te van ) but the one i got is rusty on the flanges, which please tell me if i am wrong, should be clean

it matters aslong as the new one fitted is the one i sent them. and if the exchange is good to refurb. are surface machined etc ?
