Thanks kida. You won't have any problems sending that one back as the exchange unit
it matters aslong as the new one fitted is the one i sent them. and if the exchange is good to refurb. are surface machined etc ?
thats is my worry if they say its no good and send it back.Quite a lot of recon cores go in the scrap, some companies only ask for them back to remove them from circulation and to stop them getting into the hands of competitors. Others that do use the return cores are happy if they can salvage anything from them. I would only worry about it if they refuse it as a return.

yes maybe but why ******** me. i understand possible complications with these things but honesty works wonders. not calling me an idiot in certain ways.Chances are he has had a job getting the elbow nuts to play ball getting the old one off and ended up cutting yours off...replaced 3 of the same turbo myself last year so i know how it can turn bad with them.
What bit is missing? Both inlet and exhaust side of the turbo is there.
Just collect the motor and say your taking it else where as you don’t trust them
If they are a decent garage they will say feel free to take the motor to an independent workshop
If they kick up you have your answer
yep, wat peed me off was telling me it IS the one they removed and all turbos look like that aswell as the other they have. no reason but they ripped me off IMO and found my turbo wasnt wat they problem was and kept it. end of the day though, there loss as i was going to get them to fix the rest. There will have been thin metal gaskets on your turbo flanges so they won't have gone that rusty after a couple of days of exposure, I suspect it's not your original one. What you've got back does look perfectly ok as a core exchange though, they re-machine all surfaces anyway.
TBH I don't see any reason that could not be your turbo. Do you have any 'before' pics? The compressor should be easy to match to a photo.
so your saying a gasketed flange froma running engine would be that rusty?
i have stripped many engines and never seen such rust on a flange. even the two engines from y boat that are near 50 years old and not run for atleast 10 years.
