turning compressor off

normaly I never bother or forget to turn it off after use .went by the garage and heard the compressor running ohh well no big deal if left on it tops up after maybe a few weeks . seemed to be running a long time looked in and the motor was hot and it was minging turned it off and I heard a hiss at other end of garage. the hose coupling feeding the small blast cabinet had half pulled off and was leaking fortunately no damage to motor but would have only been a matter of time before it cooked because it has no overload protection on it

Would a DOL started of tripped it alone without an in motor thermocouple and tripping module as only found on bigger systems.
As long as the motor was spinning below the FLC it might have stayed on.
Most motors have good insulation running temp so should be fine, wonder wheat it cosy you in electric. Glad I wasn't paying it on my landlords 25p per KWH charge.

to switch the dedicated 16a feed to my compressor. i located it right by the door so i cant miss it.

i still occasionally forget to switch it off...

I installed a neon in the dol starter case to let me know when it was switched on, still need to check its off before leaving

since putting the new hose from screwfix yes i do leave it on over nightsome times but only seam now and again ever few mornings the thing turns on its rare unlike when i had the last one that used to go on and off 4 or 5 timnes a night if left on

When I wired a friends workshop I titled a split load board, with the second side of the board wired from the first through a rotary isolator.

when you turn off the isolator on the way out it turns off the lights and all the sockets that power machines. There are only a couple of sockets left on for battery chargers and alarm etc.

mine comes on when its cold and the pressure drops due to temp, i rarely leave it on now

I make a habit of shutting the tap directly off the compressor, and turning off the little red button.

However, we had the valve fail on the I don't know what bit of the compressor and although turned off, it would turn itself on, unless the mains was cut.

Got complaints from the locals at work as it ran all night once when someone forgot to close the tap..

my last compressor motor burnt out .the top was missing of the pressure switch and it was up to pressure and a lump off of steel fell of the shelf one night and hit the pressure switch spring and bent it and comp came on a chance in a million it ran till the safety valve starting to blow off and kept going till motor burnt out

just got me act together . new db in house all tested and new db in garage only good thing came out of lockdown a load of jobs done round the house

I always switch mine off, they are fed from a 32a plug to a mini DB with two 16A mcbs, one for each compressor.
So that's just one main switch to flick on the way out of the workshop as part of the lockup routine and full peace of mind.
Also I have isolating valves on both which I shut off if I'm not using them for any length of time to stop the system leaking down or just in case any pipe or joint gives way.

our brewery compressor is controlled by a central heating programmer. Set to come on in the morning and off in the evening on weekdays, shut down over the week end.
