Type 30 compressor

Hi all,
We've just purchased a type 30 ingersoll rand compressor.
On the plate it says
type 30
size 5" + 2 1/2" x 4 3/4"
model 7t
ser 225205

The thing is, its missing what i would call the head on the smaller bore.
Is there anywhere we can still get spares from or any ideas on what we could do with it?
Any help greatly appreciated.

mines a similar pump, Type 30, Model 234, s/n 254427, 3" X 13/4" X 23/4"
and has W3936.

I'll have a word with a mate in the business. He's been repairing and finding parts for Ingersoll Rand compressors for the past 30 years.

Plus I need some bits off him anyway!

Thanks for that. I have a few numbers to call now along with collecting another type 30 from scotland.
Along with the first compressor we picked up a Atlas Copco compressor.
No tank.
Will get some photos of the pair of them tomorrow.
No idea what the Atlas would be used for but it was cheap!!

I spoke to a few suppliers no luck as of yet for the part i require.
I did get sent a parts diagram, but the head in the diagram is held on via 6 bolts like on the low pressure cylinder. The high pressure head on mine is just held on via 4 bolts. They have got in touch with ingersoll rand but are awaiting for a reply.
Thats the story so far.
I did get some photos.
the first 1 is a view of the cylinder showing the missing part.
The 2nd pic is of another compressor i picked up with no cylinder.
AM wondering if anyone knows any more about it?
All I've managed to find is it will deliver 32 cfm i think.

The second compressor is an Atlas Copco LE series, possibly an 11 from the look of it. Should be on a data plate on the pump. Unusual for a large piston compressor because it's direct drive, very good unit. Also all alloy construction.
The pic of the Ingersoll looks like a very old type 30, you won't get spares from Ingersoll for that, you will need to hunt for the part from old dealers.

Yeah its a 11.
Is it possible to link the atlas up to a couple of cylinders do you know.

The rand is a type 30.
Really struggling for parts for it. Have bought another compressor with the same size high pressure cylinder but with a different stroke hoping i can utilise some parts from it.

No problem with it feeding 2 receivers. By the way, the motor on that is obviously 3 phase and 11KW from memory.
You will struggle with parts for that 30 because of it's age. Thing I'm wondering is the reason for the head being removed, could there be a serious problem with it ? May be worth investigating before you spend alot of time finding parts ?

Yep 3 phase and 11 kw.
Problems with?
Crank or piston do you think.

Good idea. I know the other compressor is complete so may just keep that together.

The most likely problem would be a big end. Whats the oil like ? And the oil level ?
It could also have been a valve problem of course, hence the head being off.
There is something strange about that 30 though, the cylinder finning doesn't look like 30's I've seen ? Is there a motor on it and if so what size ?

Yes there is a motor on it.Not sure on size but there is a plate on it.

I'll go down the garage tomorrow have a look and get some more photos of it.
The cylinder on the 30 says it is from 1969 from what i remember.

The struggle with parts for a T30 IMHO is not because of its age but because the compressed air firms in the UK are a bit of a closed shop and don't want to supply parts, if you goggle T30 you will have quite a lot of US firms selling them, after all they brag that the unit hasn't changed much since its conception in 1928 and if you have had a look at the link i posted it it confirms this.

Mb air systems is who i called. They have been very helpful, But not found a part yet. I am using another compressor so its not like there is a rush.
It should be ok to turn on without the head on it shouldn't it?
That should tell me then if there is any further problems before investing to much time and money into it.

I called Shiremoor today. That guy certainly knows his stuff.
He has a head but he really wants two so he can keep one in stock.
If he has two he will sell me it.
So here's hoping.
