The only thing that bugs me about the PCL units is that they are set up so they are fully adjustable and can be calibrated/serviced but you'll be hard pushed to find someone to calibrate one for less than the cost of just buying a new one.

They have a little screw hole where they are supposed to be oiled but I suspect like me nobody ever does that

I have mine done at a place in Thornbury and they charge me £30 to do my PCL Mk3 and my Britool torque wrench. I have them done every couple of years (I'm only a hobbyist) and they've always been pretty bang on.

I would do my own but finding an accurate reference to calibrate against is nigh on impossible. Pencil gauge, PCL tool, garage inflator and foot pump gauge all read differently. And who's to say a new PCL unit is accurate anyway?

Which is why the lady I used to work with in a Shell forecourt used to rush out, screaming and shouting at the kid attempting to put 100psi into his bike tyre, and would stand guard until they cleared off . . .

Think she'd seen the results of a tyre that mostly went bang past the face of kid kneeling down by his bike . . . the problem being the bits that hadn't mostly gone past . . .

I worked in bike shops when i was of a school type age, and this customer borowed the track pump to put some air in his tyre, we all saw him pumping vigerously and we all were shouting stop stop but then his wheel exploded, not the tyre but the whole rim(well half or more) split along the spoke holes !

He was a bit shocked.
