Tyre inflator with an auto stop?

As everyone is saying just buy a PCL MK3 inflator. Any cheap electronic inflator will probably fail long before an analog PCL will, and batteries will need replacing etc unless you buy a mains powered wall mount one.

The cheapest way to have what you want seems to be running an air regulator before the inflator. otherwise there are wall mount options and some handheld ones but they are all quite expensive.

I have a couple of Mk3 also. I've been tempted many times to buy the Mk4 digital, is there any specific you don't like about it?

Mine don't always turn on LCD screen qucik enuf

Really good advice here thanks, the auto stop was really so that it would work like a garage forecourt version where you can make sure all the tyres are at the right pressure when it hits the beep, as opposed to relying on an analogue guage, which I was worried might be a bit different between tyres if you're not closely scrutinising the display.

I think the consensus is that's not a problem though so thanks! Ill probably get a digital version ordered soon

i blow my tires up using the garage forcourt tire inflation i acquired 40 years ago its accurate but i check now and then with a halfords tire pressure gauge

Most of the cordless ones have auto-stop.

To use the compressor you have then as suggested, get a regulator and set it to the max pressure you want.

Although most of the tyres I do run different pressures, even front/rear on the same car so probably more faff than it's worth.

Unless you are running a race car which has been set-up on corner weight scales then a couple of psi difference between tyres is not going to be noticed anyway and the accuracy of a pcl analogue gauge will be fine.
I know what you mean about the garage type pumps that beep and shut off when they hit the preset but I bet they are not that accurate either.

A simple solution would be to get a tee-piece, put a male & female quick release on it and a pressure release valve.
The prv would need to flow more than your compressor plus you would need a different one for each tyre pressure but might work ok if you had a lot of big tyres to fill and you were in the habit of wandering off and forgetting about them...

If your thoughts are to connect it and walk away then the best advice anyone can give is 100% do not do that.

Connects to Mini, walks away . . . leans in to check at just the wrong moment . . .

I suspect you will get more accuracy with a good analogue guage then anything cheap with an auto stop. There are some very expensive auto stop units out there which I would imagine should be accurate but not a practical option for the average Joe.

PCL MK4 analogue here and no trouble getting very precise consistent results. Simple, easy and reliable.

Had several twin clip on connectors and they all leaked. Swapped to the single clip on unit that @Robotstar5 showed which works like a charm. Think they are being phased out for the swivel version which looks a lot less substantial.

I know you asked about a compressor but just as info for anyone I've got one of these and used it quite a bit with no complaints. Feels a bit flimsy but I already have the batteries and is very handy. You can set the pressure and it switches itself off which is great for the van and tractor tyres. I never thought about it not switching off until this thread though so cheers for that!

Using a pressure regulator set to max tyre pressure will make pumping up tyres take a month of Sundays.

Flow is proportional to the difference in pressure so a big difference means faster inflation. Of course, some common sense is required.

Auto stop - nah, that's as useless as a TV remote.

I managed to break the connector on my inflator last week so threw the unit in the bin. Thanks to Robotstar5 , I’ve nicked his idea, bought a new PCL connector, fitted it to my old unit and am up and running again for around £20. Happy Days!
