Interesting reading especially when you get to this bit:
Another thing to note is that the driver of a vehicle with narrow tyres on wide rims may find that their insurance is invalid in the event of a claim.
Because the Road Traffic Act specifically prohibits insurance companies from denying 3rd party cover due to the condition of the vehicle. Since third party cover is the legal minimum it's impossible to be uninsured due to a defect.
