I'm guessing he means using a good cavity wax in places like chassis rails etc..
when you say "Whatever you do, protecting the inside of things is at least as important." what do you mean exactly ?

For one thing.
But also prime the back of any patch panels you make and won't be able to get at once they're in situ.
OK, the primer will burn off where you weld it, but it'll stay on the rest of the panel.
