Nearly bought an ex-army demount awhile back. £22k. But then had a reality check, that I’ll never go where one was needed. Would be nice to have one though
@fizzy How on earth do you break a Unimog like that?!
Often discussed using one as a camper conversion base.went to my farm unit today and noticed this hidden away
Yours for £75k and even has a washing machine inside
Looking at the front I'd say it hit something quite solid
That is why I am building a totally over the top trailer - it won't be just for wood or lathes - I have a sneaky plan to use if for long distance expeditions - we shall see.
Pretty solid I think. 10mm I beams and 6mm angle.

whilst i *am* a fan of OTT enjin earring.
i've got to ask what you are going to tow it with?
and what are you going to carry?
for any sort of "normal" loads + vehicles, you're going to lose half your payload.
my 7x4 single axle homemade trailer is built from 50x25x3mm box section with 25x25 spaceframe strengtheners.
it weighs 400kg out of a possible 2T (most my lexus will pull: 4.2T GTW)
whats yours going to be? 1T empty?
It is a 3.5 ton axle.
And yes I worked it out the other day - bit lighter than I though - 950kg.
So behind a Land Rover I can legally carry 2550kg - enough for a reasonable lathe or milling machine. Or loads of camping equipment!
Of course the trailer will actually carry far more. Tyres rated to 4500kg and apparently they test these axles to 15x designed weight
then my next question:
how much could the frame take?
15T?
if you could shave 300kgs off the chassis, you'd not neccesarily gain payload.
but how much fuel? would it be easier to maneuver?
not saying you should - just "could"?
