Personally I would rather the zetros or another 6x6 to convert to an expedition vehicle.
I'm just a tourist, so could someone please tell me..... where would an expeditionary vehicle such as these be used here in the UK besides in ones dreams ?
As I understand it, campers are only "allowed" to stay in designated camping facilities.

When my trailer is finished I am planning on driving down through Morocco to The Gambia and back. Then perhaps Eastern Europe.
I would use one in the UK as well though.
As long as you don't take offence you can park up anywhere. I see plenty of camper vans parked up in laybys having a kip!

Saw one of these in the services a while back:
Iirc, it was a 1624ls, 4 wheel drive 2 axle rigid, fitted with an expedition style body, and the owners were a lovely retired German couple who were very happy to let me have a look round it. They’d had it restored from the ground up and had fitted just about everything an expedition would need including long range fuel and drinking water tanks, solar panels on the roof, numerous batteries and inverters, shower, bog, full cooking facilities, it really was the mutt’s nuts.
They showed me the photo albums of their travels, and they’d literally been everywhere, the length and breadth of Africa, the Silk Road, numerous former Eastern Bloc countries, and all over Europe from the Med up to Trondheim. They were planning to ship it to the US for their next trip...

Brilliant machines. A farmer in Eskdalemuir had one, used it for everything. Ploughing fields, snow ploughing transporting beaters on shoot days. Seen a few used in the forestry, mainly for winching timber out. Would love one to replace my L200

They do a lot of things moderately well but nothing outstanding in any one department. They wont replace a tractor or a decent 4x4 lorry tipper and cost a fortune to maintain. Most small bits are £100 plus, clutch is about £1000 and engine/gearbox parts will make your toes curl.

I used to spend a lot of time in France and one time we decided that a Unimog would be worth considering as a replacement for my old Land Rover to do car transporter hauling duties. There was a ex military dealer who had loads in stock so went to have a look. They were the stripped down 404 type with canvas roof but unfortunatley couldn't be legally driven on a normal car licence. Shame as quite cheap.

I've always thought those mogs make strange expedition vehicals. A lot of the ones that are used are not multiples of my 101fc size, but they do less than half the mpg.
I'm sure their payload can carry all the fuel, but it never seems idea to me.
A friend used to drive one round the mine where he worked. Seems a much more sensible use for them.

Moved quite a few of them with the Hiab from the wind farms by Kennacraig.
The problem with “wild camping” in this country, England more so, is that as usual, the thoughtless minority have spoiled it for the sensible majority. Me and my ex had some fantastic times parked just past the middle of nowhere, nobody knew we had been there, but along comes the muppet who empties his portabog in the ditch and leaves his bag of rubbish behind a wall, and next time you go there’s a “No Parking” sign...

Under a low bridge at about 40mph I reckon.
It won't drive with the boom raised, let alone with the legs down and the wheels off the ground.
Plus the rear axle appears to have been moved backwards by about a 1ft.
The Police can move you on....wild camping is illegal in England, its ok in Scotland....there are now local bylaws banning camoers from certain areas of certain towns....there was even a proscution in Lincolnshire (huttoft i think it was, or moggs eye),,,,I believe Swanage has banned them as well.....We got our head down once when we were early for a ferry and we were wokwn by the Police and a loudhailer in the middle of the night....probably OK during daylight
PS If you do go on your Journey please dont do a blog or vlog or whatever.....there are that many on the net.....they all seem to think it will pay for their trip but who wants to know about their holiday.

To hold a caravan rally you have to get planning permission from the local authority but the Caravan Club etc are granted some leeway to avoid all the paperwork, you can also get Caravan Club permisiion to open a camp site but it can only hold 5 vans.
