No longer available and over £100 on eBay last time I looked for one
The old saying of never meet your hero’s comes to mind with a mog
40mph and so noisy
I always wanted a forward control 101 but after rebuilding 3 of them I never want one of my own
4String
You’re right, of course, but when did common sense ever get in the way in these matters? I’ve had several LR’s and loved and hated them all in equal measure. I still hanker after a Unimog too
When I replace my current van il do a traffic conversion as a family weekend van. Not necessarily a sleeper but kitchen and cleaning facilities and room to sit out a storm and play games etc.Very true.
And as a result of this thread, and eLuSiVeMiTe’s pics of his Sherpa conversion, I’m now thinking about trading my Nissan van in against a slightly bigger van that I can convert to a stealth camper.
overnighting....wild camping.....is there a difference........I dont know one way or the other. Personally I wouldnt plan a holiday relying on stopping is lay bys but thats my preference.Nope. Still see no mention of overnighting o. Laybys In Your article.
When I was touring about in the van the last thing I wanted was to spend time around other people.
Cornwall and Devon were great for it. Plenty of decent off road laybys.
When. I drove away early doors no one would have known I'd been there. Leave nothing behind.
Carry on to the next days adventure and worry about where to kip later
Indeed. Be a boring world of we were all alike.overnighting....wild camping.....is there a difference........I dont know one way or the other. Personally I wouldnt plan a holiday relying on stopping is lay bys but thats my preference.

At the risk of upsetting the “One life, live it” chaps, I knew within minutes of driving a Landrover for the first time that it would also be the last time, and 35 years on, it was!
Can honestly say that I’ve never driven anything that was so uncomfortable, had such bad handling characteristics, or was so ergonomically ill thought out. I can appreciate why farmers and park rangers in Africa have them , but not me. *shudder*
I found the d3 compared to a d4 so vastly different
The same goes for d1vd2 d2 v d3
when i was still cycling and before i got married (30 years ago ). my regular "holiday" - practically every week through summer - was to set off cycling somewhere (like the east coast, or the lakes, or northumbria).
cycle until it got dark.
set up my tent at the back of a hedge in a field. then up when it got light, and off again.
15 or 20 trips over 4 years. all done like that.
Indeed. Be a boring world of we were all alike.
Camping and sleeping in a LayBy (lay by the road) are different things.
Judging by there name that was there original intent.
Wasn't exactly a holiday. I was working and exploring and enjoying being single and back in the UK after 9 years away.
Don't do holidays. Waste of time and money.
Rather be doing something productive
If it's legally converted should be class 4Another subject not touched on here is taxation class, as an ag vehicle the mog can be driven on a car licence. Tax it privately then add a gurt camper body and it will probably need an Lgv mot . It will almost certainly weigh in at over the 3.5 ton car licence limit. ( ok for us old gits )

I only do holidays these days
Incidentally I read another article that said Trucks parking overnight in lay bys is also illegal but the Police have to turn a blind eye because of the tachograph laws.....how can they move on if they are leagally obliged to stay still......anyway not my cup of tea and I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would pay tens of thousands for a campervan and then park it up in a lay by.
