Bang on 3.5tonne but can tow 3.5 also.

There is but there not cheap and the 2.3 is a good engine but fragile electronics

Looking at the front I'd say it hit something quite solid

That was one from work,It rolled off the road ,down a bank and ended up hitting a tree. Aparantley it was driven back on to the road !
I had a good look over it when it was parked up at the recovery yard, there is a whole lot of damage, bent torque tubes,broken castings and the chassis is ruined.
£300,000 new with the insulated tower on it,,oops.

I remain very happy at having passed my class 1 test when I did. (Just realised it was 30 years ago .)

I almost let it lapse 10 years ago when I was 45, but I’m now very glad I renewed it. Our 19 year old apprentice at work has just passed his class 1, but what a pita it is nowadays. Rigid test, trailer test, theory test... Thank God for being a dinosaur

There is still a loophole where you can drive an articulated lorry on a car licence. If it is classified as a mobile exhibition unit.
And you can even drive a Challenger tank all 72 tons of it!

Same here, bike and car test the same day at the same place which was about two hours all up, Class1 HGV was a few days driving about in circles and then a test. That lot would take months these days.

In my case, driving around Sheffield in a Bedford TM hooked up to an empty 30’ single axle trailer. The day after I passed, I was driving a 141 Scania hooked up to a 4 axle stepframe running at 80 ton .

When my grandfather left the navy he was asked what licences he wanted. He said ‘all’ he never drove a lorry but did have a three wheeler that most people drove on a bike license at the time(wasn’t a plastic pig)

4 of us loaded what were described to me as “...experimental prototype” tanks from Salisbury Plain one Friday afternoon last year.

Bristling with all manner of frightening technology, they were driven up the ramps by a great guy from Canada who didn’t give much away... They had to be fully sheeted, and we were told by the driver of the (unmarked) Police car who followed us all the way to base that under no circumstances were we to leave them unattended at ANY time when we stopped for a break, and he would accept total responsibility should we have to exceed driver’s hours to get back to base. Roundabouts were magically clear, and traffic lights were all green, due to another (unmarked again) Police car in front of the convoy. We took them to Otterburn the following Monday morning, and were again shadowed by numerous Police and MOD vehicles, and while it was one of the most interesting loads I’ve ever carried, I for one was very glad to be shot of it! (No pun intended )

A mate I mentioned before has just passed his test on class 2 or whatever they call it. He had funding for that. Would have cost about £1600. He passed first time. Then he had to do his driver's CPC course. 35 hour in a classroom but only 18 hours actually driving.

He had to pay for his class 1 - that is about £1600 again. Sadly he failed the test on something silly - taking too long to couple up the 5th wheel. He is resitting next week - will cost another £400.
But he has been promised a job taking home £500 to £600 a week so he will soon recover costs.
The biggest problem was his docotr and the flipping DVLA taking almost 6 months to sort out his medical certs!

I did my HGV when I was working at Ford Dagenham, learnt on an artic with the top deck sticking out in front, my trainer was a sadist, had me going all round the east end of London...

Yes, running a big chipper off the pto all day, its an ag registered mog so on red diesel. They dont do 10mpg so it would be no different on a motorway at 50mph.

Are you driving for Metcalf Farms?

Thankfully, no.

Although before the last series of “Supertruckers” that featured Metcalfs, our lot were approached by the tv company to be featured. They said no, thus denying me me 15 minutes of fame, and when I asked why, the M.D. told me that regardless of my prowess with a Hiab and over 3 decades’ experience of heavy and precision lifting: “.... a banjo playing weirdo who delights in telling people he wears a rubber suit and has a propensity for skinny dipping would probably be a bit too much for the viewing public...”

Hopefully it was meant as a compliment, because I took it that way .
