Well, that didn't work as expected. Got all the bits in place, cable made up, clevis made, but the whole movement of the handbrake lever didn't even apply the brakes, nothing seems to move in the pad area when the levers are moved, and they moved nearly an inch each.
I'm hoping it just needs bedding in a bit, some tension and use on it, and then it may work. Otherwise, time to make a long travel handbrake lever.

Yes, I shall have to experiment with such things. The inner pads are new and only touch the disc on one edge at the moment, so they'll need bedding in to make it work at all.

This week I inquired at a much recommended auto transmission guy as to how much to rebuild my TH350 autobox. Over £2k to do the job, and supply flex plate and a suitable torque converter.
That's about a grand more than I'd anticipated.
Stupidly, a couple of months ago, I arranged to have my scruffy old driveway relaid in nice blocks, and a few feet wider, and that's chewing up nearly all my savings, plus this trike project has spiralled out of control in costs.
Summitracing in the US sell a fully rebuilt 'box at a good price, but shipping and import costs hit hard.

It was sat on the ground, outdoors, and half full of water/rust when I bought it. I think the valve body is toast but I may get all the parts soaked in citric acid and inspect what I've got.
I may give them a go, see what they can do.

Just dug out the box of parts, thinking of cleaning them up; front pump is smashed, valve body is solid rust.

Problem is whether it's a 'good one' or some old junk someone's selling off. Until it's in the vehicle and being driven it's impossible to tell. That's the trouble with automatics. If I buy one there's a chance it may not even be tested in action for six months or more, depending on the rate of progress.
There's one on Ebay now, a 'rebuilder' with no guarantee of any sort, but still asking £744

Bin it..i bet its took out all the ball bearing seats in the valves, plus you will never clear all the debri from it innards. They are a simple box to rebuild but you need to record everything as it comes out and be as clean as an operating theater. How times have changed,the TH350 used to go into skips as there was so many about.

I've been wondering if there's a modern 'equivalent' autobox that could be adapted to fit in the same space. I've even thought about a manual box, much simpler, but just as hard to find as an auto.
I'm over £10 grand deep in this project already, it's spiralled out of control, and it's far from finished. It'll be an amazing bolide, if I can stay the course though.

I don't really know of any, anything of that ilk is worth serious money nowadays, if only for the V5.... GM must have built over 100 million of them, but they're not that common any more.

I always used to see stock parts in adverts.
In the 80's it seemed everyone[except me] was buying boxes from A1,
so there wasn't a shortage of stock old boxes in the way.

I'd suppose the bellhousing bolt pattern of your engine must be carried on into the present day (or recently) which would surely make finding a suitable box easier.
Or adapter, and fit an RX-8 manual box, which will take the power. Relatedly, did the RX-8 ever come with an auto?

I did something simiilar to the handbrake on the TVR to persuade the Jag calipers to try a bit harder.
