Now I saw a member hear trying this thought this would be fun to have ago at its not easy. I'm self taught all welding processes and have not had any tuition except from hear and you tube. This is a 2.5 open root vertical up butt weld attempt 1
70 amps root
75 ish two pass
75 weaved cap got bored by this point
all criticism accepted you guys have pushed my skills ten fold from what I was way back when

The Last photo was the penetration its a bit excessive but first attempt ect

Try to clean the slag off better as it must be completely clean between runs, and also to let us see the welds better!

They're pretty decent actually, I probably don't need to point out the faults because right now I think you just need to keep going and practice. You're doing well.

Hi, what type of rod did you use?
What angle did you cut on the plates? (with a mill or with a grinder?)
What gap did you use?

I would like to learn vertical up too.

I picked out a few the bottom failed due to being a numpty and trying to weave it's only till I forgot about the key hole bit so the top half is where all the pen is due to me opening up the hole and punching through trying to find a wire brush at dads is like looking for gold when I get ten mins and I can get some more scrap ill have another play at it

I used fin cord m rods 6013 and I used a cutting tourch on a price of angle to get me bevel and flaped back with a grinder I'm gunna use some cheap 2.5nexus rods next time

Next time I'm gunna run 2.5 root 2.5 stringer hot pass 3.2 cover pass 3 passes laid side by side

The root was looking better towards the end.
It you're doing stringer fills do a stringer cap.
If you're weaving fills then you can pick weave or stringer passes once the bevel width increases

On your last fill make sure you fill to just a mm or half mm below the bevel edge.just enough to leave the edge visible. That way your cap will be easier to get reinforcement instead of struggling to build up

Hi guys another go at v up open root with a welder dad found in the skip I used 6013 2.5 fincord m for the root and lo hi 3.2 for the stringer fills I forgot to take a photo of the other fil and caps as I only had Hal an hour to do this dad did not want to be long today what you guys think

That's a transarc tradesman 130 if I'm not mistaken, a good machine...
