Here is a 10 fill v up run tee fillet using fin cord m 2.5 6013 and 7018 fincord rods the 2.5 at 70 amps and the 3.2 at 110 amps any better

2.5 6013 root 3.2 fills 6013 plus 1 7018 rod used in the cap I think its an improvement

some bits ok some not so good, photos can make a reasonable weld look bad
practice and a consistent smooth motion will come with practice
6013 v up aint the easiest, try a 7016 and you will never go back

A good attitude
The only real issue with 6013 ( especially in practice) is the serious differences in quality across the spectrum

That's understandable being I've had 6013 rods from cheap to expensive and sometimes I get hit or miss results but id rather try and get a good result with a 6013 perfecting my techniques then having to rely on 7018 and 7016 rods and having to explain to a potential client I cant weld with anything other then xyz. Hopefully I've come across correctly

Perfectly and then there is always the case of having to adapt to what you have on the van etc.

Yeah mate that's how I feel altho I just got a box of 7016s for 20 quid so I might use a few to practice but again its more i want to be good with all not just the one type

Don't listen too much from the yanks who tend to hate 6013 - could be a vicious circle there if people in general don't rate them then nobody is going to stock the hood ones

I understand the yanks hate em I'm mixed I use em I've used lots from cheap to expensive and the cheap ones I use for non pay work but if dad decides to pay I'll use dearer rods. I don't hate 6013 I just struggling with open root welds

I have two big international firms locally that specify murex 6013.
One is a cement manufacturer the other a chemical and plastics type firm ( with fingers in just about everything)

I was helping on a job as a pipe fitters mate and the welding job there was all murex spec

Well the photos do make it very hard to see clearly which doesn't help, but you've certainly got quite a lot to improve on yet. Smoother motion, particularly on the cap, would make quite a difference. Consistency is lacking in both the root and caps, one end varies compared to another.

But, although there's plenty of room for improvement, they're by no means bad - a lot of people can't achieve anything like that at all, and it certainly isn't weak.
I'd say you're on the right track.

I haven't forgotten about popping up and seeing you David, just don't have time to scratch my **** at the moment what with work and other stuff. I will make it up when the Lincoln is road worthy though and we'll spend an afternoon welding scrap together out of position.

Here's a part fill with a 7016 so much better feel wise then a 6013 but then the flat was done with a 6013 and felt nice
