Very large paint dipping tank

IIRC there is a special paint made for dipping.

Powder coating is neat in that there isn't much over spray with the electrostatic attraction, and the fact that any
"overspray" can be vacuumed up and re-used.

However there it the prep (seen many failures of adhesion) and the heating oven cost's.

I recall seeing an electrostatic attachment for a spray gun (liquid paint), might be a good option.

We used paint bells to give the paint a charge on automated gantries and robots in the paint booths at the car factory, not suitable for manual application though.

Many thanks for all the replies as ever there's some methods and ways i hadn't even considered!

Don't think powdercoating will work as i dont think the surface preparation would be good enough

Just to elaborate i have seen the exact method I'm talking about at 2 different places making the same stuff as i do-very little in the way of information when you start asking questions tho....

The one did say that he'd shown someone exactly how its all setup and then they had gone and setup and taken several of his customers!

A lot of my work is flat panels which will be dipped maybe 15 wide at a time

Will be a similar setup to a galvanising plant only obviously a lot smaller tanks and less fancy stuff but the basics a jig on a overhead crane with parts wired to them is the same

I know I'll be able to paint roughly 30 to 40 gates like this a hour(5ft×3ft) which is a big improvement over manually painting

Leaving them to drip dry over the tank isnt a major concern as i can get on with something else for 10 minutes or so my concerns were more with how to stop the paint skinning over etc

I'm wondering.... do you need paint all the way down in the tank?

a bit like how hydro dipping works - the paint/pattern is only on the surface?


can you have paint floating ontop of something else?

or... could you dip things flat instead? so you lay a gate down flat in the paint? , so the tank doesn't have to be as deep?

Have you considered double-sided air jets? (I envisage them at an angle pointing downwards to blow excess paint back down into the tank) Might have to experiment with the pressure in order not to remove all the paint...just thinking out loud!

i will give you this

and a wire track like the ski chairlifts

lowering the track can be an issue but run on the same track with a lower arms well could be done
