Vfd for this 0.75kw lathe motor?

It says change gears are 20DP, the same spec. as Myford so that is a plus point.

The Granville does look good....
But I'm a little troubled.....looks too good to be true .....seller has been very sketchy - only after a lot of questioning did he admit that he knows nothing about it - or it's history ....just that he took over the workshop and this was sitting in it, and he needs the space. On one of the pics there is a 20l tub of heynau oil with about 5 litres missing - sign of a careful owner doing maintenance OR some gearbox work that could have been unsuccessful ! Why would a lathe like this just sit doing nothing - I'm sure it does happen but when I think about it sounds odd. And there is no 3 phase in the workshop, seller says he can get a Genny and run it from that but the lathe cable is missing. But why would a 3 phase machine be bought to sit in a workshop with no power. It all seems odd - and it's an 80 mile round trip with trailer to find out! So I'm having doubts today.....

And on the other hand there is this very dirty (and small) myford down the road ....I only started a few weeks ago to think how useful a mill might be (but decent stuff is very much in demand ) and the footprint of the myford isn't much bigger - needs a vertical slide though. It's obviously well used, I've seen it running smoothly but I haven't checked it for wear yet...

Oh good dilemma!!
Both cheap enough to risk, but I prefer the look of the Myford. No idea why.
You could:
Offer the Myford guy £180 unless there's a load of tooling not shown.
Offer the Granville guy £150 to allow for a motor change. Maybe previous owner bought it cheap to stick a single phase motor on- or he had in mind a VFD but never got to it?

See who goes for your offer.

Yes pretty much what I was thinking too - I think there is additional tooling with the myford too and I feel more comfortable just knowing that bit more about it. I've been asked to wait until the weekend for the myford so I'll delay on the Granville until then (even if it does sell beforehand). I don't want to end up with two lathes haha
