No idea what a macro is.
Yes the switch connects nothing in the middle position, and if you turn it either left or right it connects either one of a pair of contacts.
I have reached the limits of my patience with this drive, a day and a half to wire up a simple command is ridiculous, its been nothing but a pain in the backside since i bought it. I am going to pull it out and buy a chinese one off ebay, they might not be as "good", but they last long enough and are simple to wire up.

Doesn’t look to me like that will work if the switch is 3 position.
If, as said above, it needs the run contact maintained as well as the reverse contact then you would ideally need 2 contacts for it to work in reverse mode, 1 to go to the Rev contact and the other to go to run contact.

Daleyd, would you have any idea of the type of switch i need ? I'll see if i can get one off ebay.
One thing, is there any mention of two wire and three wire control modes in the manual? The VFDs I have used have a Three wire control option that caters for momentary switches to directly interface with some existing control panels. If it has this and is set to it you need a different wiring approach.

My Invertek allows me to switch straight to reverse from forward run. The inverter will use the ramp setting to slow and stop the motor before reversing rotation.
Hot wire as suggested. It's not likely to break it. At worst it'll throw a wobbly then need a reset.

If hot wiring it works then a simple switch like this should work Ebay double pole toggle switch

I could get both sides of the switch to work, but it did not reverse the rotation of the spindle. I then thought it might not work without the "jog" function being connected. So i wired in a jog from the vfd to a separate manual switch, that only works while you have your finger on it. It would not work unless the spindle was turning, and when i took my finger off the switch, it did not stop the spindle, it just let it reach top speed again.
I find all this daft. According to the circuit diagram there should be a 12v wire coming from the vfd, to one side of a switch, two connections, on the other side of the switch should be three wires, one going to run, one to rev (which i assume is reverse), and one to jog. Not bothered about the jog thing, which should simplify things, but it is stumping me.
In the past i have worked with other vfd's, the yaskawa i have on the lathe, no bother to set that up, easy as pie, in college plc's, scada and all that, again no problem really, i find this ABB frustrating in the extreme, a simple matter of getting it to run a motor in two directions, should be a ten minute job. I'll never touch ABB stuff again.

Yes, it runs ok off the vfd, its the issue of wiring it so i can select which direction it spins is the problem.

This is going round in circles. We've not really established anything other than you can't get it to run in reverse.
If you put 12v on the run then it runs, yes?
If you put 12v on the reverse only it doesn't run?
Have you actually tried putting the 12v on the run and reverse together as has been suggested?
The jog is irrelevant at the moment. That just lets the motor run to the predetermined jog speed and is momentary in operation.

Seems really strange that reverse isn't working in that case, have you tested that 12v is getting to the screw connection for reverse. Not doubting that it isn't as you seem to have tried everything already but really curious why this doesn't work.

12v to start it runs in one direction, yes. 12v to reverse, nothing. 12v to start and reverse it runs, remove start and the spindle stops. I appreciate the help, but i will email ABB tomorrow and see if they can help. I tried absolutely everything today, all combinations, i was that sick of it i didn't care if it did blow up.
