Those ones in my link are a 2-way bulb not a 3-way.

The low output is probably better for what the op wants but I dont know if the high would be bright enough and they look ****e.

Just read the description it relies on the bulb being switched off for second then back on.

If you go incandescent bulb then the solution is trivial. It is the way that expensive photflood bulbs were kept warm between shoots...

Wire a diode in series. Short it out for full power.

Its pretty trivial with a relay

Actually for a lamp post outside a 50w filament might be about right for the low level.

You could then stick the other 2 on with the pir to give you 200w.

If you wire it like the drawing I dont think you will need the dimmer. Just buy whatever wattage of bulb you want.

Fitted a few of those photocells in the past - they are good. They also take an M20 stuffing gland in the bottomso to speak.
Learnt something new tonight about leading edge and trailing edge dimmers. (Must be getting old)

True. I'd like to be able to fine tune it though, and its not a great deal of extra work to fit one.

another thought what wattage light will be used . most dimmers cant dim less than 10 watts minimum and will just flicker or wont work at all

The dimmer i have bought states it will go 0-300W on an incandescent/halogen lamp.

had some lamps that do simalar to what your after, hi lo outdoor pir, not these but they are simalar. maybe get one and rip the guts out of it
