i realy wouldnt worry about earthing it . u would need a 100mm cable down to a good earth rod to carry the lightning current.ive seen lightning blow a 6 foot hole in the side of a brick gable end of a house burn all the wiring and trash every apliance in the house it even blew the plaster off the walls where the cables were buried and explodedgood looking shed , also i have started a weathervane too do you need to earth it i have googled that query and got conflicting answers i get the feeling i wont need too but the proposed position is near the telephone cable running to the house is that a problem ?

You don't want to clutter up that nice bench with power tools etc. build yourself a nice model railway layout on it!
