Welder settings r tech mig 180

I'm struggling to get this set up. I've been welding a shopping trolley to use as a welding trolley. It's sticking together fine but I'm not 100% sure it's set up right.

I've set it up due to the sound it's making when welding

Any help appreciated

Is the shopping trolley stainless steel? And are you using stainless wire?

Thickness?

Aren't they galvanised or plated?

You need to put a pound in first.

I think a shopping trolley is plated from the ones I've seen.

That looks very neat - good idea and use of....'re-purposed' item.....

The trolley is galvanized steel so make sure that you grind off the zinc coating before you weld and wear a mask or work out in the open and stay away from the fumes.
I don't really like the way you've fitted the welder into the trolley. It would be better to remove the grill and make a shelf. It may have to be placed across the frame because of the space available but it seems to me that it won't be necessary.
Making a trolley from scratch is quite easy and you can arranje things in a more convenient way.Just my two cents...

Slim_boy_fat - I couldn't justify buying a proper trolley a) I need the practice and b) I haven't got the spare cash atm and welding is an expensive hobby to begin with.

Multiwelder - There are a lot of variations on the trolley trolley. I just happened to do it this way. Would I change it, yes. Its not perfect but its smaller, less cumbersome and not top heavy like the other designs. I wants to keep the centre of gravity low but at the same time keep the foot print of the trolley small.

You'd have got more practice building one from scratch rather than stealing a trolley, 2-3mm MS angle is cheap enough to buy and you could have made the footprint smaller.

I'm having trouble with penetration with the settings on v0 w1.5 the weld looks good but there is zero penetration

I'd say you need to get some clean flat plate and try and get some good beads on that first. As it is you don't know if it's your technique, a machine fault or the metal (don't know what they are coated with but I can't imagine it will make welding easier). Try and eliminate at least one of those and you stand a better chance.

"v0" = zero voltage. That's not right, it should be showing 18-20 volts, something like that. I'd up the wire speed too, that will give you more penetration.
