I still used oversized tips on the last job i did, it worked better with the cheap ally wire I had. I have some nice quality wire now and will be trying standard size tips again. I will never buy Binzel "A" tips again, though. They are hugely oversized, not sure when that happened but the last batch I bought were awful. A 1.4mm tip suits 1.2mm wire far better than the newer 1.2As that they sell, so I just bought 1.4s.
If you can use a standard tip and you don't feel any wire snagging while you weld, then happy days...
