Welding Benches? Especially Portable ones.

perhaps just a tarp tied in each corner, it would ne nice not to be dodging rain showers..

I've done exactly that. I put a row of hooks along the edge of the shed and hook a tarp onto them, the other side gets hooked onto a couple of long poles and guy lined out.

I don't put it up very often, but on the odd occasion that it's raining and I need a bit of outside space, it's a life saver, and it keeps the rain off.

A shed will also collect grinding dust, fumes and dampness. It is easier to sweep up a mess outside. I dont like doing dirty work where I am storing stuff.

I fully agree, but I can think of a million times when I've thought "I wish I had a bit of inside space to do this in the dry".

But I can't think of a single occasion when I've thought "This being inside working in the dry is rubbish, I'd much rather be outside getting wet in the rain".

i dont think i would ever have that thought through my head...today ive been cutting box section and sheet steel in the garden and its been bitterly cold, but the job needed doing. id rather have had to sweep up afterwards if it meant being out of the wind.

tomorrow i will be welding in the garden and while there is no wind forcast, its still below 3 all day. its going to be a while til my shed is done as there needs to be some fairly substanial ground work to level the area, add drainage and remove a wall, and we are tryig to plan an extension on the back of the house at the same time so trying to tie all the ground work in at once so ive only got to hire the digger once, but when its done i will legitimately alter the dimensions of projects if it means being able to work in the warm and dry

If there was a spare dry shed, it would soon be filled with a milling machine, and no welding or grinding would be allowed near it

Cheers for the replies! I might make something then. I could probably use the flux core that came with the machine to make something to my spec before I go to gas. That table in the picture was actually quite heavy and big. Probably a bit much for a portable unit. I need to get a welding trolly too but just thinking of something small to practice on... I imagine a workmate will be up in flames in no time

Nothing stopping you changing the wooden top of a B&D Workmate to, say, 1/4" steel
