Just to add my twopenn'th, the principal of 'buttering' is to save expensive filler material on welding large cast sections where the remainder of the joint can be filled using a dissimilar or even a 6013 on a non-critical job. And as the faces would require machining for alignment, I'd spend the money on an adaptor plate. W/A
