My close up vision is pretty poor, spent too many years in front of a computer screen. In the last 6 years have gone from just about coping without readers to needing them for everything

My reading glasses are optimised for VDU work so focal length is all wrong for closeup TIG work. My fix is a 1.5 cheater lense inside the welding helmet along with my readers. Means I can then focus on detail at about 10"

Splashed out on an Optrel VegaView last year. The optics on the VegaView are just awesome

they normally slot in to the internal shield slot , just some of the new masks are a strange shape ,

yep , perfect , thats what I mentioned as being the route , and it would be 1 or 1.5 , many thanks for taking the guess work out .
Most folk over 45 probably need glasses , by the time its 55 the numbers are huge , but a lot of folk ''get by '''without , Im not an optom ,, Im the tech , I make glasses , but the reaction you get from folk when you give them their first pair of prescription glasses is amazing ,,, its like when you put a new sheild on your mask , and all of a sudden the world is a better place .......... only better.

Problem is he said his readers are optimised for VDU. Mine are optimised for reading (as you say in the bottom part) but to see through bottom part I have to lift my head up...

how about a cheap pair of script reading glasses , and a cheater lens for your mask , for the really close up work ,, just a thought

Its an option. Taking glasses on and off is not good with me though. I tend to forget where I last had them. Thats how I ended up with damn expensive Varis. lol

yep , but readers would get most work shop things done , or even slightly less strong intermediate / vdu script , the add a slightly stronger cheater len in your mask , then no glasses swapping needed .
