Hi, Ive been doing a bit of searching and nailed it down to 2 helmets, 1st one is the, BOC Auto-darkening 5-13 Multi-process Helmet, on special at the moment @ "179+vat (i can go try it out as BOC is not to far away)
2nd is the, Esab Eye Tech Variable Shade 5 - 13 Automatic Welding Helmet @ £199.95 incl vat, both have grinding mode, which i like the sound of,
does anyone have any experience and thoughts on these helmets, or are the any better ones for that sort of money?

The BOC will be a rebranded one though from where originally I couldn't say. The ESAB will be very good and would be the one of the two that I'd go for. In that price range I'd also check out Optrel (I think the model is the Satellite). Incidentally, Matt1978 told me that the Lorch helmet (he works for Lorch) is a rebadged Optrel Satellite but because it is Lorch branded you benefit from an extra years guarantee (3 instead of 2) so that may be worth bearing in mind.

The BOC one uses the ESAB screen and controls, but has a different helmet body. I have an ESAB 5-13, but it's more than I need for MIG and TIG - I bought it for filming welds. I'd have bought their 9-13 in hindsight.
Batteries in either can't be replaced without cutting open the side, so mine is stored beside the garage window to keep it in charge.

The Parweld XR915H, is the later model a bit more money but a more sturdy helmet, and has a grinding function, I use one With fairly low amps DC tig without any problems.

The BOC 5 - 13 i have is a rebadged Optrel satellite.
I Use the 6 - 8 settings a bit with tig, thats what i bought it for mainly.
Have had it for a couple of years with no problems.
It is a bit pricey though if you don't really need the lower settings.
The grinding button is a bit awkward to use if you have gauntlets on.

I wish i had won the lotto, but sadly not, my mum lent me the money, good ol mum
if its comfy i will keep it on so my wife cannot see me pulling faces at her when she nags me about wasting money on things, i wonder what she means?
