That's always been my theory too - but the thought crossed my mind today too low a temperature could compromise the performance of the composite under shock loading of dropping something . . . I wonder if boot makers suggest a minimum temp?

I believe it's specified in the EN standard somewhere.
I have always figured that due to the low thermal conductivity of polymers if the composite toe is approaching a temperature low enough to be compromised it probably means my toes are cold enough that dropped objects no longer represent the biggest risk of toe loss.

I have previously acted as professional witness for large supermarket chains getting approvals for their use of German insulated panels within the UK market. Its a tricky minefield of requirements & legislation and fall foul of any of this now and its most likely jail time if anything goes wrong.
It was really from about 2008 onwards that large insulated panel manufacturers such as Kingspan started to make the panels core Building loss prevention certified.
FYI these are easily identified with a black lamp. There will be markings on the inside of such Kingspan panels if approved. If pre 2008 and no markings visible under black lamp then chances are it's not a good sign.
Older premises with existing composite panels are likely paying large insurance premiums (yes insurers of large commercial premises can ask for a roof plan with % approved panels. But normally not chill rooms spec to my knowledge) and these premises could well be dangerous for any hot works.
In the place I worked all the internal walls & the roofs were 2 skins of plastic coated steel with 4-6" of expanded polystyrene in between. We had to be very careful doing any hot work in there!
It was only around the early 2000's that any new panels fitted were filled with what looked like compacted fibreglass wool & were supposed to be fire retardant.

During a shutdown at the foundry we had contractors in to remove some old ducting, they cut it with a gas axe not realising it was rubber lined so we had a nice fire with a good draw through the duct. The works "fire brigade" turned up in a Morris van with a few extinguishers rolling round in the back
then a couple of green goddesses as it was the time the fire brigade were on strike.There is far greater risk of static electricity in cold dry air.

just wrapped up well and got on with it.... if it's a cold store how cold you are will depend how close you are to a fan / how you're shielded from them
I'm lucky, could turn them off while I worked so it's not so bad.... the wind shill in front of a evaporator fan is pretty horrible.... we have some at head height, if you go in with a runny hose without turning them off you'll freeze the snot inside your nose :-o

I worked in a giant distribution centre cold store on their IT systems. It was a very hot summer and I was wearing a suit. It was very welcome.
