Going to go off on atangent here.We talk about putting your ear up to the nozzle to listern if gas is flowing.When I was serving my time with welding equipment my theory WAS to listern for gas,but I was soon taught that if you stick a lighted fag on the end of the nozzle,if there was gas flowwing out,the fag would go out!

Try that with acetylene!

Yes but it's a take your pick without working thoughtless possibles one by one prooving or disproving
It's to this you need to look one at a time now

Gosh that's ugly. You need to remove all that. It's not safety critical I hope
Could have a fair bit to do with crud hidden on the inside as well

Yup. Its not good and not safety critical the rest of the welding around it has been done by pros.
Could it also be caused by old MIG wire? The stuff I got with the welder must be at least 2 years old.?

I had a small Cebora MIG set many years ago, and it wasnt that nice a piece of kit. I would suggest if you can, try and find an experienced welder to try your machine, as the set itself may well be the problem. On mine wire feed was always a problem, caused by Disney type torch, and Micky wire liners...............

While we on the subject I have started using my migatronic 180 mono on a heritage railway it welds perfectly (For what I want anyway).but every setting seems to be up a notch since moving it from home. The power source (13 amp) is about 35 metres distant its forever tripping, 2metres at home no probs, Length of cable or 13amp socket or both at fault?.

Length and CSA of your cable won't help.

35mtrs, you're probably better on a 4mm2 extension on a 16a supply.

Basically yes
