Welding sill patch on modern-ish car. What steel, what wire?

I normally bugger about with old cars, so any repairs i just do with mild steel.

However, on this occasion if got a 2005 car with a localised hole in the sill. (looks to be a leak from the window)

What steel should i be using using for this. Obviously i can repair with mild, but that doesnt seem right.

Also what filler rod?

Thoughts?

Hi, I read an article years ago that said that cars were being made of high tensile steel and so could be thinner. They shouldn't be gas welded but MIG should be used because of the composition of the steel.

Boron steel is used in some cars but not for outer body panels more for impact protection in door areas.

Ive had to weld a few truck cabs recently, I have not welded steel so thin before!

Its a vauxhall monaro.

Its not mild steel, its way to "springy".

If you are not sure, mig braze it which is the approved method for Boron steel.
Each manufacturer / model will have an approved methodology and kit

Sounds to complex all this. Getting to modern welding cars. Just stick with old school newspaper/foam and P38 and P40

Duckhams multigrade - pop riveted on - covered in thick layer of underseal.

As I discovered when a rear strut housing came away from the rest of the car . . .

I'd be using mild steel, or controversially a low grade of stainless (409 ), I've used a lot, and Mig with mild steel wire.
I'd use mig to limit heat input.
Good protection is the most important thing.
I've got a vxr8 which will be getting the same treatment.
I wouldn't be worrying much about a sill repair on a monaro, I'd be overjoyed that it didn't need the front chassis legs welding.
Plenty of monaros have been welded with nothing fancy.
