Pah, metal repairs, what's wrong with a layer of fibreglass

Call it composite and charge extra ,, steel is so '' yesterday '' its all composite these days

unless its a land rover , then its more compost.

back to the op , mig in a bit of 1.2mm plate ,, I find its about the easiest to work with as the slightly thicker plate works as a heat sink and lets you get a lot done with little stress , its still thin enough to shape easily too.

Welding a patch on to a sill is only a bodge until next year .
1.2 mild steel plate with some 0.8 MIG wire snot around the edges .
It only has to withstand finger and thumb pressure on the MOT .
Slaver it in underseal to fill all the holes in the welds .
What can not be seen can not be tested .

Welding is just cooking but tastes like c*ap, cook the real stuff and enjoy it

well thats total rubbish
maybe in England you get away with that , but here we dont , all patches / repairs are to be fully seam welded , and left bare for inspection , and thats at large mot centers not the local garage , no back handers here and no half arsed bodge repairs ,,, I leave repairs to sills looking like new steel , and treat the area behind with acf 50 and stand by anything Ive repaired for three years. To my way of thinking thats certainly not a bodge.
