A while back i was having a mess around doing end to end ali coke cans, much harder.

On a side note...whats the hardest material people have ever tried to tig together? Alu baking foil? or is there something worse?

I had three or four of them in the 80's, disposable cars, I would buy them with a years tax and dodgy mot and run them till they died. One brought five of us back from Devon on only three pots, by the time I got the head off in London one of the pistons was almost entirely gone. It did need about a gallon of oil every servise station along the M4 and made a smoke cloud worthy of James Bond, oh to be young and care free again.

I've done this a few times having a mess about. The coke can is not too bad as its bigger diameter makes it easier for stability and heat conduction. Try a couple of red bull tins. That's even more challenging.

It's not always the thinnest that's the hardest. Some Alu car panels contain copper, zinc and loads of unfriendly rubbish to add strength. The weld cracks almost immediately after a tack

Just messing about earlier, started off at 9 amps but a bit too hot, then dropped it back to 4 to finish it.

I'll be a long time practising then, not sure I can get to 4 amps. Well done that man, I bow to your skills, you do very good work anyway.

If fit up and speed/amps are very good you could do it autogenous. It would be pretty difficult trying to dip any thing into a 4-9 amp pool.

Good fun messing around with small stuff, coke cans end to end is def harder!

A heat sink helps

Did these on a 3in1 Thermal Arc 181i at 10A lift Tig Never tried the 202 but she drops down to 5A.
