There would be some complications with heat and stone, but unless you are trying to pull the walls back in (ie use the screw to move the stone) then you could just fit right up to the stone, flush, and then weld.
As in not bother with the thread at all.
Again, I can see there may or may not be issues with the heat and the stone, but Im sure they could be gotten around.
