Re: whip hoses - the ones mentioned earlier in the thread were for conversion purposes, so retaining the coupling on the tool as well...

A whip to make the coupling remote from the tool is an entirely different proposition.

Useful point which could save people confusion!

So fit a whip hose to your tools to make them better to use, and have a whip hose to convert the fittings to different types

Absolutely Bill I also use this type of swivel http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silverlin...-Fitting-Universal-Joint-U-J-3D-/371264653683 on nut guns/ ratchets etc whips I strip them first and drill out the ports in them, to better flow the air through them. when getting anut gun in awkward places they are a must in my view.
was in fact grateful earlier today when fitting a steering rack I would never been able to get the bolts undone without getting the gun in the gap around exhaust manifold etc.

Buy mine off ebay £4 ish in fact have two on my desk at moment, have had NO issues with them no leaks they have been on some guns for years.
they have lasted much longer than the whips themselves!! because they take a lot of stick.

I though it was the six degrees of seperation ? not freedom ?
they are totally universal think they are 6 degrees apart from clashing with the tool handle.

Most are around 4.6 - 4.8 mm, except the little die grinder which is 4mm.

I have some of that style-----maybe------ and am sure the probe id are quite big. but the qr overall is no bigger than std pcl

The top class fittings that we used at work,were made in the USA, called Dynaquip. Had a quarter turn lock/unlock incorporated into the female fitting.

I have Dyna Con DC3 twist connectors. Mine are getting on a bit[bought in 1975] and leak so bad I don't use them any more.

Some one mentioned Norgren, I bought the first ones in IMI[norgren]. And when I wanted some more
male connectors, after IMI crawley had shut, and it turned out snap on sold them. I was told I was the
only bloke he had ever sold them to!

I've changed over to the Hi-flow XP fittings, I now have 8mm bore minimum all the way from tank to tool (page 45 of their catalog), also other cheap value for the money items for the extensive workshops supplies cupboard.

Is there a noticeable improvement vs using smaller connectors?

Oh yes, my 1/2 drive impact gun is the most obvious, to be honest I wouldn't go back to a standard PCL fitting now.

The only problem I now have is my workshop compressors 50 litre tank empties a lot quicker...., at work we use a Clarke 13cfm 150 litre compressor and the difference is noticeable on both.

I do use mainly 10mm hoses.

PS. In the catalog link above the air hoses on page 44 are cheaper than on page 45...
