welding? I cant see poo!

i can see almost fine before i start but as soon as i arc the helmet goes too dark and all i can see is the yellow (very brightly) from my weld, cant see what im welding so i have to get the torch in position before i start and its pretty much just spot welds as i cant see where where im meant to be going

ive tried different settings and i just cant get it dialled in, helmet was only £30 so very cheap but has received very positive reviews which made me opt for it

it was from amazon, Leopard Large View, Solar & Battery Powered, DIN9~13 Shade, Auto Darking

i would buy something else but kinda scared in case its the same and all down to "user error"

That there is a very kind offer and one the OP should take up. As with many of these problems they can be sorted in minutes with some hands on tuition.

Have you been to an opticians recently? It's maybe worthwhile... sometimes vision problems can manifest as unable to focus properly lights against dark - like driving at night and all you can see is rivers of headlights. Only it would be a near sight problem (so "far-sighted") in your case...

I am short-sighted, had laser eye surgery a few years back, and my eyes are fine for tests, but there's still an annoying time around dusk-to-dark where car headlights screw with my vision.

You may be able to focus on welding with reading glasses.

I have my eyesight checked every year and all I need is 1.50 readers (I wear these under my helmet) When I took my old Parweld into work, I sat watching the welder tigging and I could see evrthing as clear as day.

As soon as I got home, I couldn't see where I was going either inside or out. I've recently been doing a lot of Mig outside and have to do it 1/8" at a time and hope I don't wander off line
