what capacitor?

As I've previously said the capacitor needs to be tuned to the motor in question. What works on one motor won't work on another. Sounds like the capacitor isn't giving the correct phase difference to spin the motor correctly.

You could try measuring the voltage across the two poles of the motor whilst it briefly runs (be careful live 240 volts AC remember), the goal is to get both voltages roughly equal for efficient running.

Thanks Normin. Tried my Cap. off dd comp. 35UF instead of 45..........same result,slow then cut out. Guy gave me a "spare" motor (same CIMA unit)with this compressor to try anyway.

It' s doing exactly the same but going slightly faster before tripping. He may have blown both motors for all I know ??? I've double checked wiring.

I will buy new Cap first anyway ( spare) and if same then it's another motor.

Would seem unlikely that both motors are u/s. If it's a double pole motor there should be four wires out of the motor internal, two for each winding. Check the resistance readings on each pair, should be the same give or take an ohm or two. You can usually smell the burnt windings for ages afterwards if the motor is damaged that severely.

The start winding should have a higher resistance than the run winding.

No burning smell or visuals. I gather they only burn if something is seized and motor is trying to go. Yes two groups of two wires each. Red and a white. When checked for resistance each individual side ie a probe on each wire they both show zero on meter ie. closed circuit. Yes two pole motor.

The second motor is used as well. It is possible he was turning them off from a mains or something.

Ordered a new 50uf Cap. supplier says that is what he would replace with.

Any more thoughts on the motors.?

The reason my pressure washer cap went was a stuck pump. Check the relief valve is unloading the pressure when you get it working so it doesn't start up against full cylinder pressure.

I too have inherited a karcher power washer, i was meant to repair it for the mother in law but she passed away quite suddenly last year just after i took it apart and found the capacitor burnt out. I want to repair it out of sentimental value and respect to her (already have my own power washer) so i was wondering where you got your capacitor from

I got mine from a local electronic/electric supplier called JPG electronics in Chesterfield. It was same spec as the original but physically a little smaller so I padded it with some gaffer tape to hold in place

Just for anyone that has been following this thread AND my hijacking it a little - i was able to get the capacitor for the Karcher pressure washer from http://www.rapidonline.com/ for £4.27 + £4.95 p/p - i now have an 'as good as new' pressure washer - but more importantly the satisfaction/sentimental value associated with it in respect of it being the mother in laws and her untimely death last year - hope all is well up there Mrs F - god bless

lexi try contacting the makers of the motor here and ask what the resistance for both coils should be that way you will know for sure if the motor is good or not
