...close, actually a 1/2" male thread and 1/4" female thread.

If the the bung thread was of a larger diameter then a larger BSP fitting could've been used. Sadly it wasn't meaning the internal female thread of the BSP fitting would naturally be less than 1/2"

So why do you need a reducer? it will be a 1/2" bsp in the tank.

I understood that a BSP reducer fitting would be necessary. I see your logic though, simply a PCL XF could've been used instead of the reducer.

However the airlines that I've selected and a few of the tools do seem to use 1/4" thread. So a 1/2" fittings would seem pointless.

Ahh ok I see the way your going. Mine has a 1/2" pipe, threaded both ends about 3" long between the regulator/ filter, then a PCL on the reg outlet.
