What glue for steel to copper thats good for Diesel

It would appear my last attempt has managed to stick the two parts together, heated the pipe and the bolt and let the heated parts melt the solder

Thank you all for the advice on that. As an emergency solution would a 2 part epoxy glue be suitable as I can keep that on the boat.

I'd buy an underwater-setting epoxy putty.

Some do, yes, and there are fuel tank coatings designed for permenent submersion, but, I wouldnt trust a generic one. Epoxies are a large range of chemicals with many different types.

I'd be comfortable with any epoxy adhesive in a diesel/kerosene scenario from a chemical resistance view. Pretty much all of the off the shelf options state they are fuel proof.

The only fuel tank sealants I've used are "two-part, manganese dioxide cured, polysulfide based sealants" (lifted straight off the manufacturers blurb!) - horrid stuff. But it stops the kerosene coming out the wings!

No denying soldering is indeed the best solution here...it's what I would do...but the man asked what adhesive...and an epoxy adhesive would be my go to.

Thankfully it appears he's managed to get it to work but If he couldn't of got it soldered he needed a solution....all the well wishing and proper advice in the world wouldn't have helped then.

So I did buy some epoxy as a safety thing but I carried out the sick and blow test on the pick up and I was unable to feel any air leaks so fitted it. Replaced some of the 8mm flex hose with the proper iso versions and stainless clips and she fired up, no leaks so all must be good.

About 15 years ago they resurfaced our road, by dumping loose chippings down it. Most never stuck :( big holes after a month. They resurfaced last week and I thought it was a good job, plenty of bitumen, stones and rollered. Annoying that two cars didnt move, or get towed out the way. Few days...

Poundland stuff? To be fair Ive used it to good effect in some harsh situations - bike engine cover, and radiator end tanks.

Silverflo55 is great stuff, I may have said that often, its expensive, but it works beautifully, and the cost per joint is still low.. it doesnt need very much.

Silverflo55 is great stuff, I may have said that often, its expensive, but it works beautifully, and the cost per joint is still low.. it doesnt need very much.

You need a better local authority! (Don't we all?!)

I wouldn't recommend an epoxy for that anyway, needs to be flexible so UV stable polyurethane adhesive would fare much better.

Almost certainly the poundland stuff is made by a big name and rebranded, everbuild do a rapid for £2....maybe even the same stuff. Id use it no problem.

I've never tried silverflow55, maybe I'll pick up a few rods to try, can't be any worse than my attempts at silicon bronze.

If you could get it down here, Id do it with silverflo55.
Solder should work, it needs to be spotlessly clean. Do not heat the joint directly, heat either end. Plenty of flux. Wrap a ring lf solder around the joint.
A short dip in hot citric before and after too.

If the copper is long or thick wall, wrap the far end in fibreglass or similar to keep the heat in.

its been soft soldered so would need to be scrupulously cleaned off to take silver solder

Looks like you used lead-free solder! Dreadful stuff, it will be much easier with proper solder. Not sure if you can use real leaded solder,after that ***** is in the joint?

But epoxy would be fine! as said above ^^

I know its probably not what asked.

But if low pressure diesel line, why not convert it to press fit with plastic lines?

It is low pressure but the tank has screw in fitments welded on so I'm not keen on modding the tank. The tank is part of the boat so no chance of removing it to repair.
