This sounds very much like an experience i had with the RAC -
I called up, and told them that the transfer box or center diff was broken.
"So what is wrong with the car then?", asked the operator.
After a while, it seemed like "the engine does not run" was the only way to communicate. I had not lost my keys, and the tires were not flat, so it had to be the engine.
They then sent someone out to assess the vehicle. I told them what was wrong with it before they had gotten out of their van. They never got out of their van.
I then had to wait hours longer for a flat bed.
A work mate had similar with the AA when his Landy threw a rod while on hols in Devon, he told the operator to send a recovery truck as there was a conrod sticking out of the side of the block, "oh no sir, we will send a patrol first to see if they can get you on your way"
