Is it just a case of whacking a DMM across the output of the welder and seeing what it reads as you lay a bead of weld ? Having never had the need to measure the output of a welder I'm curious...If possible you need to measure it when welding to give true arc voltage and you’ll find the results are much much lower.
So if that's the case the thinking on this thread is wrong and the setting would be low to high as :

I don’t know joe. You’d really have to measure the arc voltage to confirm it for sure. You’ll get enough of an idea from ocv I’m sure but personally I’d measure it welding to get an accurate idea of what step produces what voltage.
