What's it like owning a XJS?

I have absolutely no reason to own one but im considering it, especially a V12 if i can find one but what are they actually like to work on when they break? Bearing in mind ive only worked on land rovers

From what i can gather so far, the facelift ones are the ones to go for,but still a lot of rust to look out for.

rust rust, a heavy thirst, poor build quality,rust , general BL type problems and they dont drive that well....oh and did i mention rust ?

i own a jaguar xjs convertable 1977 . honestly as above rust is your main enemy. mechanically pretty straightforward.

I was looking at XJS for an occasional commuter (cycle most of the time). After looking at a few was put off by the rust...all had a similar amount in similar places....ended up getting an Audi A8 - no rust there!

My mum had had 3. 2x v12s and a 6. All turned into rust buckets. Lovely motors though

I remember my old man having a Silver Datsun 180B. All the exterior panels were afflicted with the tin worm. They were made out of the worst quality steel.

Was at a wedding last weekend. Two jags were parked outside for show, one XJS and a mk2. Both were immaculate inside and out, the mk2 stole the show though. A very very nice car much nicer than the XJS. I’ll see if I can find a picture of them

Beat me to it iirc he discovered there was more to the XJS than good looks (much like attractive women ).

I know about the rust,i have 2 d1s and a 110
Its the mechanical side i dont really have a clue at the moment,
Im guessing like most british cars,,parts prices arnt too bad?

Its only going to be a toy really, doesn't need to be economical or reliable.

Which out for knackered nicosil bores on the V8's, not sure about the V12's though....

My first car was a series 3 4.2

Was reliable, very easy to maintain, stupidly expensive on fuel think 10 mpg, and oh it rusted everywhere

Beautiful to drive, would have another in a heartbeat

i actually really like mine . Parts prices are pretty good and like i said earlier there are plenty of clubs and helpful people . if you want as toy just keep the rust at bay and mechanically well mines considering how old it and bearing in mind its a 5.3v12 auto has been no issues. obviously just dont expect to drive it everyday unless you like going to petrol stations alot
