What's it like owning a XJS?

Glad it's clean and rust free underneath.
Alexander never beat 20mpg with his X308. I have averaged just under 25mpg over 35k miles since I got the X358. But I am more than twice Alexander's age!

while its my daily driver ill have to calm down a little and trt get it around 18-20mpg, used a full tank just 'testing' it

When we were teenagers a friend borrowed his dad's Rover SD1 3.5 V8 for a jaunt around town on a Saturday morning, we noticed that it was almost out of petrol so we all emptied our pockets and we scraped enough money together to put 1 gallon in the tank.
It was 2 miles of stop start traffic back to his house and as we turned into the end of his road we ran out of petrol!!!

a forum where people talk about fixes/ how to's ect rather than just how to pay someone else to fix it

I had a SD1 V8 auto. Mate borrowed it and ripped the exhaust off on a speed hump. Sounded lovely unfortunatley a new system would have cost more than the car was worth so it got broken for parts.

Yes the only difference is the subtle extra 's'.

Then there is the JDC, but the JEC is more DIYer friendly. Both are members only though

Does that mean that the rust is free?

My mate got a brand new metro shell in primer a few years back to rebuild an MG metro after a close look it was going rusty under the seam sealer, It was a factory made shell with built in rust ,So yes maybe it is free rust and not rust free.

I bought a brand new genuine chassis from Land Rover. When I paint stripped ready for adding power steering and then being galv'd I found it was rusty under the factory paint !

a finished car id understand, but i cant see someone buying a project for that sort of money.

it does make me want to find a bare shell for my next project though

Hi, The important question is. Does it come with an identity? Otherwise it will end up on a 'Q' plate which will affect its value even more.

So you end up with a ringer or at least a coupe log book for a convertible...
A quick look around on sites says its a bad buy, by the time you get paint and parts and think of the hours to end up with a mix and match you would be better just buying a good straight complete motor.

i agree, its ridiculous.

if i had that kind of money, id go for an import.
