For once I'll resist the urge to talk about old computers... as for your list...

3. yes, I had a black & white "portable" and I used to watch snooker on it
4 & 5 & 6 yes
7. My dad had a Fiat 128 in rust, there was always little piles of rust left behind on the drive.
8. Before that he had a Reliant Robin & a Regal because you could drive them on a bike license.
9. Always envious of a friend who had one, I had a 2nd hand Raleigh Commando and it was a heavy lump of a bike.
10. oh yes, I wasted many hours trying to get all 3 gears working only for 1 to disappear again.

Having to watch whatever mum & dad were watching as there was only 1 TV in the house.
Having to watch something when it was on because Video Recorders didn't exist.
Dad telling you to get up and change the TV channel because remotes didn't exist.
Single glazed windows covered in condensation in Winter.
Not having central heating just a single fire downstairs.
Wearing seatbelts becoming compulsory and getting them fitted to the rear seats.

Aha! It was a Raleigh Commando, not a Grifter! And did the rear of your seat collapse like the one me and my brothers?

Snooker in black and white - definitely.
And the argument about who was going to watch what.

Here in Merica We missed the original issue of medicated TP. It is now coming into play in the big box stores and the size is shrunk to about the size of large adding machine paper. Progress?

One fire downstairs . . . we managed to add another in the hall . . .heat went up the stairs and missed out the front bedroom . . .so my dad cut a hole in the ceiling above it, through the floor above, under the dressing table in the front bedroom to get the warm air into that room . . . my mates were dead impressed with our central heating ;-)

I actually walked to school, rain, wind or snow.

Teachers did not require 'training days' at the end of six weeks off.

We all had pocket or sheath knives yet never stabbed anyone with them.

Snake belts stretched too much to be effective.

Police punishment meant a sore ear for a few days.

Pocket money was earned not a given right.

You had a dozen real mates instead of a million 'friends'

A gang fight meant the risk of a couple of bruises.

A plank and pram wheels was an exciting find.

Getting 'high' was the result of a quick shared ciggy.

Cleveland Discol (with added benzene)5s/4d when I started driving in 1968 but more importantly Vaux Samson 1s/11d a pint when I had my first legal beer.

Toilet paper...you were lucky!! Ours was the Liverpool Echo or the Birkenhead News cut into squares with string through...had to go down through the 'dark cellar' and out into the yard to the privvy....I used to have to hold myself up with my arms cost the toilet 'hole' was much too big for my little bum..and me mum used to stand outside in case I saw a big spider...and I was only 27!!!!

Music today! Can't even tap your feet to it One of my customers came out with that line when me and one of his colleagues were doing the grumpy old man thing.

I'm only mid 40s and I'm sure some of things we do now are not building a better future.

My kids have to earn pocket money, we have blackboard on the kitchen door and there are jobs on it every day in the holidays.

There weren't any diesel engine cars and the choice at the pumps was 2, 3 or 4*.
There were no recycle boxes or wheelie bins.
We had bin men (not refuse technicians!) who could put a round steel bin full of ashes on their back and tip into the lorry.

Thinking back

No telly, phone, washing machine, central heating or family car but dad did have a van . School was a four mile walk or cycle ride ( bikes were always made up things not bought) and you would not be seen dead getting dropped off by your parents. As @cumbriasteve says pocket money was earned, I was helping dad weekends and the school holidays. Looking at the ads in the mag on the front page and notice advertisers with just an address, that's how things were. Izal bog paper was the pits, it was that slippery that if you were in a hurry a wipe could end up on your neck

First job on getting into school in the morning was putting some more coke in the stove in the middle of the classroom. Second job was stirring the dustbin full of wet newspaper that was our papier mache supply - we moulded it round old light bulbs to make puppet heads. Dad had the only car in the road, a Ford Y type. I used to ride up the hill standing on the running board. I still have my 1950 Buffalo Bill annual, which I blame for my lifelong love of shooting.

as a kid in the back of my dads car he put some petrol in at the station and came back moaning to mum petrol had gone up and maybe have to consider selling the car he could only get 4 gallons for a pound , and as a teen on my motorbike petrol rationing came in where you had vouchers to hand in, didnt take much notice of it as just found out why girls were differant, soon got a car.my wages as a first year apprentice for 40 hours was £4.10shillings(£4.50) a skilled armature winder £20.dont seem possible does it
