where the weld pool go?

i was told you can weld twice the thickness of the rod. but i go about one and a half. so 3mm easily 4.5mm and 4.2 easily 6mm. preparation is everything if you grind chamfers you can go thicker. got some 10mm stainless to do next(sod the mig for that), all good fun, i love it!!

sorry should read 3.2mm and 4.0mm, whoops do maths to get right thicknesses, these are not set it's all up to the individual welder.

Thanks for the link Si. I had seen it, but it left me totally clueless what size electrode to use on 5mm plate (and how fast to weld).

if u want some useless fun get a thick piece of steel(10mm plus), try some gouging rods, it was only shown to us for the destruction but can be quite controllable. never used them since i was taught how too!!
